Josep Majoral Obiols

Josep Majoral Obiols, Cònsol Major de Sant Julià de Lòria

Dear music lovers,

It is a pleasure to address you with these words of welcome to the Gran Premi Musical Lauredià. Between November 8th and 11th, we will experience a music competition open to all instrumental modalities and performers from around the world. The purpose of this competition is to open Sant Julià de Lòria to the international music sphere. In line with the prevailing working methods today, the initial selections for this edition will take place online. The final winners will travel to Sant Julià de Lòria to compete in person at the Claror Auditorium of the Lauredian Cultural and Congress Center. The jury will designate the competition winner, who will receive not only the prize but also a cash reward.

This prize is part of the effort that the parish of Sant Julià de Lòria wants to make to open itself to the international cultural sphere. From around the world, we can learn different ways of understanding and making music. Music serves as a unifying factor between cultures; the language of music is universal. Through music, we can understand each other and, in turn, expand our intellectual horizons. From the Municipality of Sant Julià de Lòria, we hope that this 3rd Gran Premi Musical Lauredià 2023 will be followed by future editions and establish itself in the calendar of events of the Lauredian parish. To all Lauredians, those who will follow the event remotely or in person, and the participants of the Grand Musical Lauredian Prize, I wish you all to enjoy the experience that this grand musical gathering will represent for everyone.

Welcome to Gran Premi Musical Lauredià,

an international competition for classical music performers!

Classical music is a universal language that transcends boundaries, cultures, and generations. It carries within it the power to touch our souls, stir our emotions, and transport us to a world of exquisite artistry and profound expression.

This competition aims to serve as a platform to showcase the talent and dedication of classical music performers from around the world, an opportunity for emerging artists to shine.

In the spirit of camaraderie, let us embrace the beauty and power of classical music as we embark on this incredible journey of talent, passion, and artistic expression. May this competition be a testament to the enduring legacy of classical music and a celebration of the performers who breathe life into its notes.

I would like to thanks the continuous support and commitment of the Comú de Sant Julià de Lòira (the Town Council of Sant Julià), as well as the support received from the Andorran Ministry of Culture. Without them this initiative would have been impossible.

Thank you all, and let the harmonious journey begin!

Structure of the Competition

The Gran Premi Musical Lauredià 2023 will be structured in three rounds:

  1. Preliminary Round (Online)
  2. Semifinal Round (in person)
  3. Final Round (in person)

Preliminary Round

For this round candidates must send a YouTube video link, lasting a minimum of 10 minutes and a maximum of 20. The repertoire to be performed is of free choice. There’s NO APPLICATION FEE for the preliminary round.

GPML will select a maximum of 40 candidates that will be accepted to participate in the Semifinal Round of the competition, which will take place in Sant Julià de Lòria (Andorra).

The results of the Preliminary Round will be sent no later than October 10, 2023. Candidates selected will need to pay a participation fee of 70€ through a link that will be sent directly to their mail.

Our communications will arrive directly and exclusively at the e-mail address indicated in the application form.

Only the names of the candidates admitted to the Semifinal Rounds will be published on the website.

Semifinal Round

Candidates will perform a free program with a duration of approx. 20 minutes.

Repertory from the preliminary round CAN be performed in this round as well.

Final Round (public concert)

SIX candidates will perform a free program with a duration of approx. 30 minutes.

Repertory from the preliminary and semifinal rounds CANNOT be performed in this round.

The Final Round will be recorded by video and streamed on YouTube, therefore concert attire is required.

NOTES ON REPERTOIRE PRESENTED:

  • The program offered by each candidate for both rounds must include at least THREE different styles.
  • Transcriptions are allowed when necessary. For instance, a piece written by Bach transcribed for accordion may be accepted. However, it must be done with the maximum respect towards the original form. All transcriptions must be previously approved by the organization of the competition.
  • In order to adapt to the time limitations, it is possible to choose single movements from the repertoire presented.

Piano Accompanists

In case a competitor cannot afford to bring a pianist to the competition, GPML offers the opportunity to contact any of the following pianists for accompaniment during their participation, at affordable rates, which should be discussed with the pianists themselves. GPML does not take part on this interaction at all, so it cannot be liable for any reason on this matter. Feel free to contact them if you need their service to discuss all the details. Please understand that their time will be limited, so the sooner you reach them, the better.

The Venue

Sant Julià de Lòria is located in the septentrional side of Andorra. The comú or parish of Sant Julià de Lòria has the lowest lands in all the Principality of Andorra. In fact, its average level is not more than 1.000 metres high, that’s why Sant Juliá is a warmer place, with a less harsh winter than the rest of parishes in the principality.

Sant Julià de Lòria is connected to Spain, as La Seu is just eight kilometres to the border of Andorra. The comú of Sant Julià does perfectly mix nature and relax thanks to its large sports, festive, and cultural offer.
