Francisco López Martín is principal flute of the Barcelona Symphony Orchestra and National Orchestra of Catalonia, and principal flute of the Oslo Philharmonic Orchestra.

Until recently, he also held the position of principal flute at the Gothenburg Opera. He has collaborated with orchestras such as the Gothenburg Symphony Orchestra, Danish Radio Symphony Orchestra, Swedish Radio Symphony Orchestra, Norwegian Radio Orchestra, Norwegian National Opera Orchestra, Orquesta de Cadaqués, Sydney Symphony Orchestra, Mahler Chamber Orchestra, Gran Teatre del Liceu Symphony Orchestra, National Orchestra of Catalonia and c/o Chamber Orchestra, performing on tours around the world.

He has received several awards at the ARD International Music Competition in Munich, including the Audience Prize, the BR-Klassik online vote, the prize for best interpretation of the work composed by Salvatore Sciarrino for the competition, and Second Prize. He has also been awarded prizes at the Ljungrenska Competition in Sweden, Andalucía Flauta and the “Pedro Bote” Competition in Extremadura. In addition, he has received scholarships from Fundación Caja Badajoz, the Government of Aragón and Ibercaja.

He began his musical studies in his hometown, Plasencia, with Juanjo Hernández at the García Matos Conservatory. He continued his higher studies at the Conservatorio Superior de Música de Aragón in Zaragoza with Fernando Gómez and Antonio Nuez, while also receiving lessons from Jaime Martín. During this period, he was a member of the Youth Orchestra of Extremadura and collaborated with the Orquesta de Extremadura. He later studied at the University of Gothenburg, completing a Master’s degree in Orchestral Studies at the Swedish National Orchestral Academy with flautists Havard Lysebo and Anders Jonhall. He was also a member of the Baltic Sea Youth Philharmonic for two years, touring throughout Europe.

Alongside his orchestral work, Francisco maintains an active career as a soloist and chamber musician. He has performed as soloist with orchestras in Sweden, Germany, Switzerland and Spain, including the Symphonieorchester des Bayerischen Rundfunks, Munich Chamber Orchestra, Gothenburg Opera Orchestra, Schleswig-Holstein Symphony Orchestra, Collegium Musicum Basel, University of Gothenburg Orchestra, Camerata del CSMA, Cuarteto Quiroga, c/o Chamber Orchestra and the Orquesta de Extremadura.

As a teacher, he has taught at the Anento Flute Course and given masterclasses at institutions including the Conservatorio Superior de Música de Badajoz, Conservatorio Superior de Música de Aragón, Conservatorio Superior de Granada, Escola Superior de Música de Catalunya, the Spanish Flute Convention, FLUTE ON Festival of the Netherlands Flute Association, Barratt Due Institute of Music in Oslo and the Academy of Music and Drama at the University of Gothenburg.

He has recently made his debut as a composer in his hometown with the premiere of his first orchestral work, El Bailaero de las Gitanas, a folkloric drama for flute, narrator and orchestra. The work opened the first concert programmed at the Auditorium of the Palacio de Congresos in Plasencia and was warmly received by both audiences and critics.
