Javier López Jaso is one of the most prominent Spanish accordionists today. Born in Pamplona, he graduated from the «Pablo Sarasate» Higher Conservatory under the guidance of Nekane Iturrioz, and perfected his studies at the Paul Dukas Conservatory in Paris with Max Bonnay, in addition to training alongside international leaders in the field such as Friedrich Lips, Carlos Iturralde, and M. Ellegaard.
Throughout his career, he has been awarded the Intermediate and Higher Degree End-of-Studies Prizes, 2nd prize at the Permanent Competition for Young Performers (1992), 2nd prize at the Guipúzcoa Accordion Competition (1993/94), and 1st prize at the same competition in 1995. In 1997, he was a prize winner at the International Accordion Competition in Klingenthal (Germany), widely considered one of the most legendary in the world.
He has given numerous solo concerts at festivals, concert series, and institutions across Spain, France, Germany, Sweden, Cuba, Morocco, Turkey, the United Kingdom, Italy, Tunisia, and Andorra. Likewise, he has performed as a soloist with numerous chamber ensembles, orchestras, and symphonic bands—including the Vogtland Philharmonie, the Navarre Symphony Orchestra (with which he collaborates regularly), the Amalur Chamber Orchestra, Camerata Cambrensis, the La Rioja Symphony Orchestra, the Bilbao Municipal Band, and the Vitoria Municipal Band. His performances and recordings have been frequently broadcast by media outlets such as TVE, Telecinco, RNE 3, Radio Clásica (RNE), BBC Radio, and Euskal Telebista, among others. As a composer, he has published several works with the Hauspoz publishing house, which have been presented at various music festivals and cycles in Spain, France, the United Kingdom, Turkey, Portugal, Tunisia, and Andorra, as well as broadcast on television programs such as Nocturnos (Telecinco). He has also contributed to documentary soundtracks, notably his commissioned work Les Hirondelles, promoted by the Public University of Navarre (UPNA). His composition Nene, for accordion and orchestra, was recently premiered by the RTVE Symphony Orchestra at the Teatro Monumental in Madrid and subsequently broadcast on TVE’s Los Conciertos de La 2. In the near future, he will premiere new works for solo accordion, accordion and symphonic band, and accordion and symphony orchestra performed by major ensembles.
He combines his artistic career with teaching, working as a professor at the «Pablo Sarasate» Professional Conservatory of Music in Pamplona and at the Higher Conservatory of Music of Navarre, where he teaches Accordion Applied to Jazz.
